Latest Updates from Our Project:

Odds and ends
almost 9 years ago – Thu, Jul 16, 2015 at 12:05:15 PM

We're really coming down to the stretch aren't we?  I have some housekeeping stuff to post, so here goes.

  • Maps in tubes: A fair number of people have expressed wanting their maps in tubes rather than folded so they can mount/hang them.  I was able to get some tubes in really quickly, weigh them, and figure out what the costs will be.  So here  you go: $8 US | $13 Canada | $15 other countries.  Remember if you already have a poster, you are already getting a tube, so you only have to pay the $4 for the printing.
  • Rose and Thorn T-shirt: If you haven't seen the design yet, look out on the main page - I think they are going to look pretty nice - especially the women's edition in the dark red.
  • Extra Limited Edition Copies: Since it doesn't look we'll come close to selling out the Limited edition versions, they will be available in the Backer Kit for sale. They'll cost $50 each.
  • Riyria Revealed Unlocked: We hit the twelve and last stretch goal!  Yeah to $70,000. So Robin will be writing the ebook: Riyria Revealed for everyone's entertainment.  I wouldn't expect to see this at the same time as Death of Dulgath - probably more like early next year.
  • Robin's Guess: Was wrong as well. She picked $68,100, which personally I felt was more of a "wishful thinking" than "realistic expectation." Still, since we've now exceed that maybe it was a valid guess after all. She certainly did better than I did.
  • Post Kickstarter surprises: Because Kickstarter won't let me to any raffles as part of the Kickstarter I can't announce it just yet, but there will be a secret prize that everyone will be eligible for. I'll let you know more after we close at 9:00.
  • Buying additional add-ons: While most people are updating their pledges for the amount of their add-ons, Don't worry if you didn't.  All the add-ons can be purchased in the Backer Kit store, which will be available once the Kickstarter ends and the data is imported.
  • Missing the Kickstarter: A few people have expressed a desire to back the Kickstarter but they can't make the "by 9:00 pm" deadline.  No worries, Robin is busy building a page where you can become a backer via PayPal even after the deadline is over.  I'm not sure how long that page will be available, but it should be there for at least a few weeks.

It's been a fun ride, but I must admit I'm looking forward to the end of the Kickstarter so we can start moving to the production phase.  From an editing standpoint I'm about 70% done with my second pass (7 chapters to go).  It should be going to Robin for alpha reading in the next 4 or 5 days.

You guys have been amazing!  Thank you for all your support and for spreading the word. Let's see how these last few hours go, but we've achieved everything Robin and I have wanted and more!

And...we're #3!!

Okay, last update for today...I promise. I just thought you might want to know we broke the barrier and are now the third most-funded project of all time - across the entire world!!

This was the goal Robin had her eye on for quite some time now, and I'm glad we were able to make it...and with a whole 27 hours to spare!

Congratulations everyone, confetti for everyone!!

Rose and Thorn T-shirt Design
almost 9 years ago – Wed, Jul 15, 2015 at 11:57:59 AM

Okay,
Here's what I've come up with for the Rose and the Thorn t-shirt. It'll be one color printing like the Riyria t-shirt so what you see as black in the design will be the color of the shirt. (Click on the image to see a larger version).

Goal #11 reached...and surpassed
almost 9 years ago – Wed, Jul 15, 2015 at 09:20:33 AM

Sorry for the late update. Things have been pretty busy here. I'm trying to keep moving ahead on editing, dealing with design for the new t-shirt, and the pledges have been coming pretty fast and furious. So, here's where we stand:

  • Goal #11 was reached so all the backers will get first look at any sample chapters that Del Rey will be putting out for The First Empire books.
  • Robin made a post last night on the seals (a design I'm still working on but it gives you the idea.  See this post for details.
  • We are really close to jumping to the 3rd most funded fiction project of all time.  Just $1,027 left to go, which seems very doable given the time left.
  • Speaking of time left, we have just 32 hours to go!
It'll all be over soon. I feel the pressure mounting as the final hours click by. But it's been really great, so once again, thanks for the amazing support.

A bit about seals...and no not the kind that balance balls on their noses.
almost 9 years ago – Wed, Jul 15, 2015 at 12:12:58 AM

A few things about the physical books purchased as part of this Kickstarter.

  • You can have them signed if you wish.
  • You can have them dedicated as well as signed.
  • The UNCOMMON VALOR and RARE BREED are also numbered/dated.
  • If you have numbered editions of Hollow World you can request matching numbers.
  • All books will have an embossed seal.

This last part might need a bit of an explanation. Special documents such as diplomas, articles of incorporation, official birth certificates often have a seal placed on them to prove they are authentic. I wanted to give books coming from this Kickstarter that "extra little touch" as well.  When we reached Goal #4 I decide to buy a custom made seal so I could press a seal onto the pages.  I might still modify the design, but I wanted to give you an idea of what this seal might look like. So here goes:

The first image shows what the seal looks like on paper - as you can see there are raised areas caused by a press. This isn't something "printed" its done with a press by hand once the books are here. The design on the right is what I have so far, although I may do some more work on it before I order the die. I was channeling my Irish roots and used a little Celtic touch.

I think this will give the backers something a bit more special than just a signed copy to show that it was one of the official Kickstarter versions. I hope you like the idea. I know I do.
