Latest Updates from Our Project:

Important update for poster add-ons
almost 9 years ago – Sat, Jul 04, 2015 at 09:33:31 AM

Hey everyone, Robin has updated the chart for shipping posters. So, if you are adding on money for them, you might want to adjust your excess pledge. Why is this being done?  Well three reasons.

  • To break out Canada because shipping to it is less than shipping to say Australia or other overseas countries.
  • After doing further calculations the overseas poster cost for 1 poster was higher than it should have been.
  • While she accounted for $4 for additional posters, she failed to consider the additional cost for shipping based on added weight.

What does this mean?  Well if you are in Canada your prices will come down significantly. If you are overseas, your price has come down for 1 poster. If you are adding multiple posters, you'll see a slight increase (and a bit larger in the US when weight is more than a pound.

The main page has been updated to show the new chart, which is also repeated here.

For those interested in how it has changed, here is the original chart.

If you have any questions send me a message, or make a comment and I'll be glad to answer.

Another one bites the dust..this time it's stretch goal #7
almost 9 years ago – Fri, Jul 03, 2015 at 02:25:58 PM

Yep, that's right.  Your amazing continued support has propelled the Kickstarter to over $52,000.  That means more ebooks.  Anyone who has pledged at least $10 will receive DRM-free ebooks of a novel and four of my favorite short stories:

  •  Hollow World (novel) - a traditional time-travel sci-fi tale combining time-travel, social issues, and a murder mystery.
  • Burning Alexandria (short) - a post-apocalyptic tale about a staunch bibliophile and the difficult choice he has to make to survive - it's a homage to Bradbury's 451.
  • The Jester (short) - The short story we are doing the graphic adaptation of. This way you can read it both in it's full form and the graphic version.
  • Professional Integrity (short) - Currently only available on audio (free) and as part of the Blackguards anthology this is a stand alone Royce and Hadrian tale.
  • Traditions (short) - This is a short story set in Elan but does not feature Royce and Hadrian, again it's an homage to a favorite story/author. I won't say which one as it will spoil the surprise, but it should be immediately obvious to those that read it.

As I've mentioned elsewhere we have now moved into 8th place on the most-funded US fiction projects of all time list:

That's pretty incredible...and chances are (although I don't want to jink it), we'll be able to take #7 and #6 in short order.  Just $1,503 to bump #7 and $1,749 to hurdle past #6.  That'd be pretty incredible!

I expect the long holiday weekend here in the states will be slowing things down for the next few days, but hopefully we'll be running hot after the break as we start the countdown to the final days of the Kickstarter.

Thanks again for all the amazing support - you guys and gals are the best!

My guess was wrong
almost 9 years ago – Wed, Jul 01, 2015 at 01:02:47 PM

Not that it counted, but when people were putting in their guesses for where the project would end up, I estimated $50,000 (which I thought was too high but hey you got to to somewhere).  Well, we are through that and now other guesses are closer.  There were actually a few people who chose that number, so thankfully it didn't turn out to be the winner because I didn't know how I was going to give out multiple "one of a kind items" ;-)

In any case we are at $50,054 right now !! Nothing short of amazing!  We are in striking distance of bumping two more projects down a rung in the Top 10 US fiction projects.

  • $3 and we'll move to spot #9
  • $753 and we'll to spot #8

Thanks again for your amazing support. If I had gone against my instincts and ended this Kickstarter before the 4th of July instead of extending it after, this would have been a nice  place to end for a 26 day project..  Having extended past the 4th - with some days to spare, it'll be interesting to see where we wind up when all is said and done.

The Jester Graphic Adaptation is a Go!
almost 9 years ago – Tue, Jun 30, 2015 at 06:05:06 AM

Thanks all for helping us reach Stretch Goal #6, so there will be a graphic adaptation of "The Jester."  Before adding this to the stretch goals I did a little research and got a graphic artist to do up a script of the story.  He's now working on illustrations for Royce and Hadrian.  Here is an example of his work from a different project.

A few notes about the graphic version of The Jester.

  • It'll be 24 full-color pages
  • The print version will be 8 1/2" x 11"
  • All backers will get digital versions
  • Print copies are available as add-ons: $6 US | $9 Non-US

After reading the script, I'm really excited about this project. If it turns out well, I might consider doing a graphic novel adaptation of the novels. It won't be part of this Kickstarter (it would cost A LOT to produce) but it does open up some possibilities for future projects.

Thanks all, for the continued generous support. Getting us to this level provides for something I've wanted for a really long time.  I hope you're as excited about this as I am.

New Stretch Goals!
almost 9 years ago – Fri, Jun 26, 2015 at 08:11:24 AM

Thanks to everyone who has been submitting stretch goals!  I'm not sure if there will be any more, but in case we keep climbing, you can add your input here. The following stretch goals were added based on backer suggestions.

  • $52,000 - Bundle in other stories. - All backers above $10 will receive ebooks of my science fiction novel Hollow World, and several short stories: Burning Alexandria, The Jester, Professional Integrity, and Traditions. There were a number of suggestions to bundle in the other Riyria books, but unfortunately I can't do that as I don't own the ebook rights for them (Orbit does).
  • $55,000 - Video diary - here is the description from the backer who suggested it. "It'd be great if you did a video diary that let us follow the writing process up until the book is actually sent out. I'm thinking something along the lines of how some youtubers vlog, where they put together snippets from a week or a month in one video and post it at predefined times. You could for instance post videos for your backers every x weeks this fall and winter and then make the playlist public for everyone else some time after the book is published."
  • $58,000 - Inside the Death of Dulgath - great minds think a like as I was already toying with this idea, and then it showed up in the suggestions. I have notes, timelines, images, and all sorts of reference material I'll be glad to reveal to the rest of the world. I'll even take some pictures of my notebooks where I did most of my brainstorming.
I doubt we'll run through these three stretch goals. We've been slowing down now that we are in the "middle period" of the Kickstarter, which is often the case with such things. But if we do, I'll go back to the current list (and any new ones that come in).
